About Bob

Bob King, affectionately known as British Country Music's Gentle Giant, is an award winning Country Music Entertainer who has travelled the length and breadth of the British Isles and beyond; bringing his style of Country Music to the many Country Music clubs and Festivals throughout the land.

Bob spent the first sixteen years of his life in the South West of Scotland in his home town of Kilmarnock, before moving south of the border to settle in the Manchester area where he learned his trade with the British based Irish showbands until he cut his teeth as a solo performer. A role he has maintained to the present and eventually to his current home in the East Midlands town of Mansfield in Nottinghamshire.

It was back in 1989 when Bob decided to turn professional and contacted the then promoter of the 'Pontins Country Music Breaks', the late Bob Chappell, and was allocated a slot on the 'Showcase'where he proved so popular that besides being added to the list of artists to perform regularly at the Pontins Country Festivals, he was inundated with enquiries from all over Britain as to his availability to work in the regional Country Music clubs: Several of these clubs enjoying his performance so much that he was voted their Act of the Year, making him one of the most sought after solo artists on the circuit.

Bob toured for many years on the Country Music circuit and in the 1990's appeared on many of the Festivals up and down the country as well as line dance events at Butlins, Pontins and even in Mainland Europe.

Bob also worked for a time with the British and Irish Country Music News and Roots magazine, reporting on the Irish connection to Country Music on mainland Britain. During his time on the magazine, Bob got to meet many of the stars from the Emerald Isle who have remained friends to this day.

Another string to Bob's bow is his songwriting ability, a talent which has been appreciated on several releases out of the Emerald Isle as well as on the recordings Bob has released himself.

Bob recently took a break from the business due to a health issue but after a short resumption of his career, has decided to retire from “live shows” and no longer tours.

Bob’s change of career sees him working as a radio D J with a popular Limerick based 24 / 7 internet radio station I.C.M.R. Where he presents his Country Carousel show, broadcasting every Tuesday at 5pm with repeats on Thursday at 11pm and Sunday morning at 3am

Bob also presents ‘The Irish Country Music Hour’ show on the internet radio station ukcountryradio.com

The show is broadcast on the third Tuesday and Thursday of the month at 8pm and 4pm respectively.

In addition to this, Bob presents his Country Roundup show on Phoenix Country Radio every Wednesday at 10pm.
